Main Street Martial Arts

Main Street Martial Arts is a non-profit martial arts center located at 1282 North Main St in Providence, Rhode Island. Situated near the intersection with White Street on the East Side of Providence, the community dojo is operated by volunteer managers and instructors. Program offerings include Aikikai Aikido, Shotokan Karate-Do, and traditional weapons training. The dojo is guided by volunteer co-owners and co-chief instructors Michael L. Werth Sensei and Sherry Lee Waldman Sensei. Werth holds the rank of Yondan and senior instructor certification in Aikikai Aikido, while Waldman holds the rank of Nidan. Shotokan Karate instruction is directed by chief instructor Matthew MacManus Sensei, a 3rd Degree Black Belt, alongside associate instructor John Philip Dumon Sensei, who has practiced karate since 1986. Classes emphasize self-defense techniques, kata practice, controlled sparring, and partner throwing drills in a cooperative training hall.
