Next Edge Academy

Next Edge Academy operates at 909 E. 8th Street in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Founded in 2008, the academy provides multi-disciplinary martial arts education for students across Sioux Falls, Harrisburg, Brandon, Tea, and Dell Rapids. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is directed by head coach Bruce Hoyer, a third-degree black belt under Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros and a two-time World Championship medalist. The coaching roster also features USA Boxing Gold Level coaches, kids instructor Paul Pinos, and no-gi coach Cheyanne Bowers. The academy provides coursework spanning grappling and striking arts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes alternate monthly between gi and no-gi formats, focusing on positional hierarchy, sweeps, and joint submissions. Striking instruction includes Western boxing emphasizing ring footwork and combinations, alongside traditional Muay Thai utilizing punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. Programs include Kids BJJ, teen and adult classes, six-week beginner courses, a women's self-defense program, and a women's jiu-jitsu open mat. The 909 E. 8th Street facility features a matted grappling area, a boxing ring, heavy bag space, and strength training equipment. Prospective students can book an introductory free trial class online.
