Oroville Checkmat

Oroville Jiu Jitsu Academy is located at 2120 Bird St in Oroville, CA. Established in 2018, the school operates as a CheckMat-affiliated academy providing martial arts instruction for children, teens, and adults. Head instructor Ira Daugherty received his black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu from Kai "Borg" Garcia in 2011 following a gold medal performance at the Pan-American Championship. The coaching staff includes assistant instructor and competition coach Eric Fought, who earned his black belt in 2016 from Professor Helio Damiani and holds professional mixed martial arts experience. Training programs feature Little Kids Gi, Big Kids Gi, Little Kids No-Gi, and Big Kids No-Gi, designed for youth students starting at age 5. Adult martial artists can participate in beginner and advanced Adult Gi, Adult No-Gi, and Saturday open mats for participants ages 13 and up. The academy is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering group classes alongside private lessons. Interested practitioners can register for classes through the academy website.
