Smith Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is located at 1461 Hwy 20 W in the South Point Pavilion in McDonough, Georgia, situated off I-75 Exit 218 across from Burlington. The academy is led by owner and head instructor Phillip Smith, Ph.D., who began training the martial art in 1996. Smith traces his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lineage from Mitsuyo Maeda through Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, Rolls Gracie, Romero Cavalcanti, and Roberto Traven. The school is an official member of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and offers instruction in both traditional gi and no-gi formats. Adult programs range from fundamental classes for beginners to advanced competitive sessions focusing on takedowns, guard passing, and submission mechanics. Youth instruction features age-specific groups for children ages three to five and ages six to thirteen. Classes emphasize body coordination, discipline, and self-defense within a structured environment. Supplementary resources include online training through a dedicated Patreon video program.
