Arthur Alvin A. Aguilar
Alvin Aguilar is the founder of Team DEFTAC and teaches the all-levels classes at its Parañaque school. After seeing a tape of the first UFC at 19, he spent the summer of 1994 at the Gracie Academy in Torrance, California, training with Helio, Rorion and Royce Gracie, then brought jiu-jitsu back to the Philippines. In 1995 Royce Gracie awarded him his blue belt and he became the first Gracie Training Association representative in Asia. Team DEFTAC emerged in 1999, medalling at that year's Gracie Nationals in Chicago. In 2002 he took the Philippines' first contingent to the World Championship in Brazil and founded the URCC, the country's first MMA promotion. He received his black belt from Kazeka Muniz in 2006, the first home-grown Filipino black belt, and in 2008 opened BAMF Mixed Martial Arts Center, described as the first and largest MMA school in the Philippines.
