Brian Rago is the head instructor at Gracie Academy Philadelphia and a 3rd degree black belt. He practiced martial arts throughout his life, with considerable experience in Kung Fu, Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Aikido, before finding his place in Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in his mid-thirties. Through hard work and many hours on the mat he reached black belt in four and a half years while competing successfully at the highest levels. His competition record includes first place at the Masters World Championship as a purple belt in 2007, a brown belt in 2008 and a black belt in 2011, a 2008 Pan Am middleweight and absolute title at purple belt, and third-place finishes at the 2007 World Championship and the 2014 Masters Worlds. Beyond competition coaching, Brian devotes much of his time to teaching Gracie Self Defense in classes, seminars and private sessions.
