Bruno Malfacine is the head instructor and owner of the Alliance Jiu Jitsu academy that carries his name in the College Park neighborhood of Orlando, Florida. He began jiu-jitsu at twelve in his hometown of Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, initially for self-defense, and quickly turned to competition. He won a World Championship at purple belt at seventeen and at brown belt at eighteen, was promoted to black belt by Vinicius Amaral of Gfteam at nineteen, and at twenty won his first black belt world title at the first World Championship held in the United States. In 2008 Malfacine moved to São Paulo to train at Alliance under Fabio Gurgel, and in 2012 he relocated to Orlando to teach. He entered the IBJJF Hall of Fame in 2014 with five world titles and became the first competitor to win ten world championships in the same division.
