Dana Dickeson is the owner and head coach of Absolute Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Fredericton, which he founded in 2021. He holds a third-degree black belt and, according to the academy, is the highest-ranking BJJ practitioner in the area; he has been teaching BJJ and grappling since returning to Fredericton in 2007. His introduction to the art came while he was working as a police officer in Toronto, when a colleague brought him to class. Initially skeptical, he was won over after being outmaneuvered by smaller, more technical training partners, and went on to devote himself to training and coaching. His coaching philosophy emphasises adapting instruction to each student's goals while keeping a student mindset himself. Outside the academy he is a husband and father of three who enjoys playing guitar and singing.
