Dean Mitchell Toews
Dean Toews is the head instructor for Brazilian jiu-jitsu at Brasil Wellness Center in Aldergrove, British Columbia, which he started in the summer of 2011 with his wife, yoga instructor Roberta Cruz-Toews, to bring jiu-jitsu and Hatha yoga together under one roof. He holds a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt awarded personally by Saulo Ribeiro, a Sambo blue belt awarded in 2006, and completed Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu instructor courses in 2013 and 2018. His training history runs from Aldergrove Academy of Mixed Martial Arts under Robert LeRuyet (2001-2007) and Jaguar BJJ under Bob McRoberts (2007-2010) to West Coast BJJ under Don Whitefield, Gracie Tijuca in Rio under Vinicius Aieta, the University of Jiu Jitsu in San Diego with Saulo and Xande Ribeiro (2012-2020), and ongoing training with Rodrigo Pagani of Curu Curu Land BJJ, in Niterói every December since 2012.
