Don Frank Whitefield
Professor Don Whitefield is a fourth-degree black belt under Ricardo De La Riva who has trained since 1997, more than 30 years by his own count, and has promoted over 30 black belts. He holds a degree in adult education and has coached world championship and UFC-level fighters, while describing his own competitive record as modest. His job as a technical trainer for an automaker let him travel and train in person with Ricardo De La Riva, Rickson Gracie and Marcelo Garcia. As his students earned black belts and opened schools, he created the West Coast BJJ Association and its annual Wintercamp. He once ran four schools between Vancouver and Abbotsford, and in 2020 moved with his wife to Barbados, where he opened two schools, founded the Caribbean BJJ Association and organises national and Caribbean championships. He also maintains an online library of over 1,700 technique videos.
