Edmund Li is a 3rd degree black belt on the team at Oahu BJJ, with 20 years in martial arts. He started at HMC Academy, competing in kickboxing, submission grappling and MMA, and formally took up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when Leandro Nyza took over the gym's grappling program; he earned every belt from white to black under Nyza, and his lineage runs from Mitsuyo Maeda through Luis Franca, Oswaldo Fadda, Sebastião Ricardo and Wendel Alexander to Nyza. He began assisting with teaching in 2012 and has since coached students from local competitions to the Masters World Championship level. At black belt he is an IBJJF American Nationals silver medalist, a multiple-time Fight 2 Win superfight winner and a Hawaii Triple Crown champion; at the colored belts he medaled at the No-Gi Worlds and No-Gi Pans. He holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and an associate degree in exercise and sports science.
