Master Fernando Yamasaki is a head instructor of the Yamasaki Academy, the organisation this affiliate belongs to, and holds a 7th degree coral belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu along with a 4th dan in Judo. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, into a family that has taught martial arts there for two generations, he is the son of Master Shigueru Yamasaki and younger brother of MMA referee Mario Yamasaki. He began in judo and wrestling before Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and spent more than ten years on the Brazilian wrestling national team. Yamasaki joined Mario and business partner Francisco Neto in the United States in 2003, after Mario opened the first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu school in the Washington, DC area in 1995. He is a UFC referee, president of the South American JJU and has won more than 150 local and national titles. With Neto he leads the academy's kids' program.
