Professor Filipe Costa is the founder of Jiu Jitsu Haus in Brewster, New York, which he opened in November 2022. He began martial arts in July 2003 at age 16 in Brasilia, Brazil, under the Juquinha team, and decided after his first class that Jiu Jitsu would be his career. In April 2010 he moved to the United States, competed on the West Coast for close to a year, then relocated to Connecticut, where he taught children and adults at four different martial arts studios. Costa received his black belt in November 2014 under Rafael Formiga Barbosa, head of the Double Five association, and has competed in both Brazil and the United States. While he enjoys competing, he considers sharing Jiu Jitsu with others more important than his titles, and builds individualized training plans for each student.
