François Deniau
François Deniau is the founder and instructor of BJJ Gozo, the academy he created in 2013 in Xaghra, in the centre of the island of Gozo, Malta. He is a second-degree black belt under Megaton and Royler Gracie. A former European champion, he competed for the Megaton/Gracie Humaita team in Brazil, the United States and Europe, and during his competitive career met Helio, Royler and Rolker Gracie in Brazil and later Rickson Gracie. Deniau also practises and teaches freediving, which he regards as a natural complement to jiu-jitsu, and the academy combines BJJ classes with freediving lessons and retreats for visiting students. BJJ Gozo is run as a sports association whose stated primary goal is to pass on jiu-jitsu and practical self-defence to children and adults.
