Professor Gabriel Marte is the founder of The Dojo, a martial arts academy serving the Bushwick and Ridgewood neighborhoods of Brooklyn that teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, judo and wrestling. He began training martial arts at 11 and has more than 30 years of experience, competing in every art he could before a humbling first jiu-jitsu class turned it into his main pursuit. The Dojo belongs to the Cobrinha BJJ family, the network of academies led by world champion Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles, and Marte credits lessons learned under Professor Charles with shaping both the academy and his everyday life. He continues to compete as often as he can while teaching students at The Dojo.
