Grant Collins is the owner and head professor of Optimus Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Laguna Niguel, California, serving South Orange County. He holds a 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano, a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 1st degree black belt in Hapkido, with 33 years in martial arts and more than 20 years of teaching experience. The academy also describes him as a two-time national champion black belt. Collins began wrestling at age 7, took up Tae Kwon Do at 16, earned his 2nd degree by 24, won over 20 local full-contact titles and trained two years running at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. In 1998 he became head instructor at the Tae Kwon Do Institute in Santa Fe, teaching up to 300 students a week for four years, before beginning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Alberto Crane.
