Hiroaki Otsuka

Hiroaki Otsuka is the representative of Physical Space Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Tokyo, which he opened in June 2014 at the age of 27. He holds an IBJJF-certified third-dan black belt. Otsuka trained in judo in junior high and high school and discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in his second year of high school, practising both side by side. On entering university he joined the GRABAKA gym, where he went on to serve as an instructor before going independent. For several years he combined competing with running the academy, a rare dual role in the industry, before retiring from competition in November 2022 to focus on managing the dojo and teaching. His results include appearances at the World Championship, first place at the All Japan Open, the East Japan Championship and the Pan Pacific Championship, and runner-up finishes at the Asian Championship and the All Japan Championship.
