Ian Salinas, known to his students as Professor Ian, is the top-ranking black belt instructor at Victorum Athletics in Lancaster, California, and one of its co-owners with Frank Balcorta and Richie Beigel. He partnered with them in July 2017 to start the academy, which began by teaching veterans and active-duty military for free. Salinas started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 16 years ago after watching Royce Gracie's early UFC wins. An active competitor, he took third at the 2022 IBJJF American Nationals, second at the 2022 IBJJF Santa Cruz Open and first at the NABJJF Orange Open, and he won his superfight at Fight2Win Los Angeles in 2023. As an instructor he aims to prepare students to compete at their own level and shares how jiu-jitsu helped him through adversity. Outside the gym he works as an insurance sales manager.
