Jake MacKenzie is the head instructor at Jake MacKenzie School of Jiu Jitsu in Halifax and a third-degree black belt under Julio Cesar Pereira. He has trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for more than 25 years, ten of them living, training and competing in Rio de Janeiro, where he was also a longtime assistant coach at the GFTeam headquarters. As a competitor he has won more than 100 gold medals in Brazil alone and is the only Canadian to reach the World Professional Championship finals at adult black belt. He has taught seminars in more than 20 countries. He runs the Halifax school with his wife, Melissa Britez Costa, having returned to his home province of Nova Scotia to teach the HRM community.
