Jason Vigil is the owner and coach of Island Jiu-Jitsu in Honolulu, Hawaii, and a third-degree black belt. He discovered a passion for teaching early, coaching friends in his garage from 2004, and in 2010, as a blue belt, formed Island Jiu-Jitsu as a backyard club in Hawaii Kai. After the birth of his first daughter he opened a formal school in 2012, subleasing space around Honolulu, and in 2013 received his black belt from Jason Izaguirre of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Kailua. His own dojo followed in 2015, and the academy now trains in Kakaako with classes seven days a week. Vigil believes students need both the fundamentals of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self-defense and the newer techniques used by today's world champions, and he has promoted his own students, including Chris to brown belt in March 2017.
