Professor Joe Soliz is the head instructor of TX 3rd Coast MMA. A martial arts student and instructor for more than 30 years, he is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and also holds black belts in judo and Shorin-Ryu karate, with additional experience in the Filipino arts and boxing. Soliz was introduced to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in 1990 while training in California, and in the early 1990s he competed in boxing, winning a Golden Gloves championship in 1993. In Jeet Kune Do he received instructorship under Larry Hartsel and Dan Inosanto and holds the rank of Senior Full Instructor in Paul Vunak's Progressive Fighting Systems, one of ten at that level. Over the years he has taught military, law enforcement, civilians and children, and he continues to coach amateur and professional fighters. His son Jason Soliz is a full JKD instructor under him.
