Kevin Christopher Howell

Kevin Howell is the head instructor of The Jiu-Jitsu League in Long Beach, California, and a third-degree black belt. He earned his black belt under Andre Galvao, the head coach of team Atos, whom he describes as his mentor and friend. Howell has trained for about 20 years, first drawn to the sport by a competitive streak and kept in it by a love of the art. He grew up in Huntington Beach, trained jiu-jitsu while at college in Hawaii, and later earned a master's degree in political science at CSULB, teaching the subject at college level before deciding that teaching jiu-jitsu was his real calling. He is the author of the jiu-jitsu books Jiu-Jitsu University, Drill to Win and Submit Everyone, and he opened and runs the academy with his wife, Haley.
