Marcelo Da Costa Guimarães is the owner and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor at GFTeam Joondalup, which he founded in 2017. Born and raised in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro, he trained Capoeira as a child and at 18 joined Liga Jiu-Jitsu in Sao José dos Campos under Erivaldo Junior. After earning his blue belt he moved to Australia with his wife Aline, later joining GFTeam and training with Fabio Andrade through to brown belt, when he began teaching. He was promoted to black belt by Master Julio Cesar. Guimarães is a certified IBJJF referee and has competed at the Sydney Open, Pan Pacifics and World Masters, taking gold in gi and no-gi at the 2023 Pan Pacific and gold no-gi at the 2023 IBJJF Sydney Open. He has trained for more than 20 years.
