Marco Antonio Barbosa

Marco Antônio Barbosa, known as Barbosinha, is the master whose name and techniques define Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu, a network of martial arts academies headquartered in São Paulo with more than 50 affiliates around the world and over 60 instructors trained in its teaching method. He was born in 1968 in Araçatuba, in the interior of São Paulo state. An active child who ran, swam in the river and climbed trees, he took up sport playfully under the influence of his father, Manuel, who was training judo at the time. In judo, Barbosa stood out for his ability in groundwork and for the way he pressured and choked opponents, a foundation the school's B9 method now compiles as the techniques of Mestre Barbosa.
