Matt Baker is the head instructor of Bakersfield Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which he runs with Jill Baker across two gyms in Bakersfield. He is a black belt under Jean Jacques Machado, and the academy is part of the Jean Jacques Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association, hosting the association's affiliate network training sessions. Alongside coaching and competing, Baker works as a referee for several tournament organizations. As a second-degree black belt he has won the No-Gi Worlds, the gi and no-gi American Nationals, the US Open, a North American Championship and multiple NAGA and Grapplers Quest titles. His technique has been featured in Jiu-Jitsu Magazine, and he released an instructional DVD, "The Jiu Jitsu Lab Series Two - 30 Ways To Take The Back."
