Professor Michael Aviado is the principal of Vaughan Jiu-Jitsu Academy. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt instructor since 2017, he now holds the rank of second-degree black belt, with a lineage that runs through Marco Costa and Shah Franco back to Helio Gracie and Carlson Gracie. He is a certified referee with ADCC, IBJJF, JJIF, SJJIF and the OJA, and remains an active teacher, competitor and official locally and internationally. His competition results include six IBJJF World Masters titles, IBJJF No-Gi Worlds gold in 2019, two IBJJF No-Gi Pans titles, the 2026 IBJJF European championship, 2025 SJJIF world titles in gi and no-gi, and gold at the 2024 ADCC Niagara Open. Several of the academy's coaches hold their belts under him.
