Professor Omar Salum is a sixth-degree black belt under Royler Gracie of Gracie Humaitá, and the academy that carries his name describes him as a Gracie-lineage roosterweight who spent decades with the Humaitá team. As a black belt he won the IBJJF World Championship twice, in 1999 and 2000, and at the coloured belts he was a multiple-time IBJJF World, Pan American and Brazilian Nationals champion; the site counts four IBJJF world titles in the roosterweight division overall. Salum has founded and led jiu-jitsu programmes in California, where his academy is based at Pharaoh's Athletic Club in Palm Springs, and he also travels to teach seminars that emphasise precision, self-defence and realistic application.
