Philip Gary Lindsay
Philip Lindsay is the principal professor of BJJ Dunedin, the Kura of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Ōtepoti Dunedin Dojo, and teaches the curriculum in both the kids and adults classes. He has led the school since 2016, after the club, which began among friends when jiu-jitsu was still new in New Zealand, became internationally associated with Mario Yokoyama. Yokoyama graded Lindsay to black belt in 2013, with Professor Stuart Marks in attendance, and the school's lineage runs from Jigoro Kano through Mitsuyo Maeda, Carlos Gracie, Carlos Gracie Jr, Ryan Gracie and Mario Yokoyama to Lindsay. He has since progressed to a third-degree black belt, receiving his first degree in 2016, second in 2019 and third in 2022, and was registered first with the Australian Federation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and then with the IBJJF. The school now operates independently as a charitable community of local martial artists.
