Rafael La Porta is the head professor at GFTeam Canada and a 6th-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with more than 33 years in the art. He received his black belt in 2001 from Francisco Albuquerque (Toco) and Rodrigo Medeiros, both of the Carlson Gracie lineage, and after 2006 continued his development under Julio Cesar Pereira and Theodoro Canal. As a competitor he is a three-time Brazilian National Champion, two-time Brazilian National Team Champion and three-time Brazilian Provincial Champion, a Rio BJJ Champion, and has medalled more than 40 times at IBJJF and other federation events. He has taught students of all levels for decades, and his approach at GFTeam Canada places discipline, confidence and character alongside technique.
