Renan Vital is the founder of Vital Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he holds a 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a judo black belt and a capoeira instructor rank, plus a degree in physical education. He started jiu-jitsu in 1990 after taking up martial arts at age six. He received his black belt in 2007 from Paulo "Rabicco" Perrota together with Roberto "Gordo" Correa, and the academy traces its lineage through Carlos Gracie Sr., Helio Gracie, Carlos Gracie Jr. and Gordo Correa to him. After finishing his degree in 2010 he won the FJJDRIO State Championship, moved to the United States in 2011 and spent nine years in California with affiliate gyms before opening his own academy in Florida. He has also spent years as a referee coordinator for federations including the UAEJJF, FJJ-Rio, CBJJ and IBJJF.
