Roberto Correa de Lima
Roberto Correa de Lima, known worldwide as Gordo, has been teaching Jiu-Jitsu for more than 30 years and heads Gordo Jiu Jitsu Academy. Raised in Rio de Janeiro, he began training in 1986 at 15, influenced by his close friend Ralph Gracie. A serious knee injury at 18, when he was a purple belt, forced him to adapt his training, and out of that he developed the half guard as an offensive position, earning the nickname "king of the half guard". He received his black belt in 1993 and went on to win the world championship in 1996 and 1997, Brazilian national titles including the open weight division, and five Pan American titles between 1995 and 2003. A sixth degree black belt who also spent two years training the UAE national team, he was awarded his coral belt by Renzo Gracie in 2024 after 30 years as a black belt.
