Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles is the head instructor and gym manager at Cobrinha Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness in Los Angeles, an Alliance Jiu-Jitsu academy. He received his black belt from Fernando "Terere" Augusto in 2005 and has since won 13 world championships, including IBJJF World titles in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2017, IBJJF No-Gi World titles in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012, the CBJJO World Championship in 2005 and ADCC gold in 2013, 2015 and 2017. In 2017 he became the first black belt to complete the Super Slam, winning ADCC, the World Championship, the Pan Championship, the European Championship and the Brazilian Nationals in a single year. Known for an attacking style, his guard was voted Best Guard of the Decade by fellow world champions in Gracie Magazine.
