Professor Ryan McGillivray is the Head Instructor at Gracie Barra Edmonton and a 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. A former professional mixed martial artist, he has spent more than two decades training, competing and coaching, and in 2011 he appeared as a contestant on Season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter. On the jiu-jitsu competition circuit he has taken bronze at both the Pan American Championships and the World Championships, along with gold medals at the Seattle Open, Long Beach Open, Las Vegas Open, American Nationals and California Open, plus further silver and bronze medals in absolute divisions. The school notes that he found success at every belt from blue through black. He now leads the Edmonton academy, working with students of all ages and skill levels.
