Shawn Earon Woods

Black Belt

Professor Shawn Woods is a third-degree black belt under J. W. Wright and the senior instructor at Gracie Humaita Columbia. One of the most decorated competitors in the area, he travels nationally and internationally to learn and compete, and students point to his attention to detail as what makes him an effective instructor. He began training Jiu-Jitsu and MMA in 2003 alongside Andy Bell, who later became his first black belt. Woods has since developed a number of black belts who now teach at the academy, including Andy Bell, Mark Thompson, Jared and Nick, the last of whom holds his rank under both Jordan Lutsky and Woods, as well as purple belts such as Shannon and Dylan.
