Professor Spencer Lalonde is the head instructor of Submission Arts Academy in Barrie, Ontario. He is an IBJJF-certified third-degree black belt under Professor Rodrigo Munduruca, a fourth-degree black belt, and Jorge Britto. His grappling career began in amateur wrestling in 1990; after moving to Winnipeg he began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Munduruca, who has promoted him through every rank. He has competed in numerous wrestling and BJJ tournaments at each belt. He has coached and cornered professional mixed martial artists in the UFC, Sengoku, Score Fighting Series and the Canadian Fighting Championship, and has trained with fighters including Joe Doerksen, Demian Maia, Jeremy Horn and Duke Roufus. His interest in coaching was inspired by his late grandfather, Jim Fletcher, a Hall of Fame coach in Michigan.
