Steven R Barnett
Steven Barnett is the owner and head instructor of Rincón Jiu Jitsu, which he opened after moving to Puerto Rico at the beginning of 2019, drawn partly by his newer passion for surfing. He has trained jiu-jitsu since 2005 and in 2011 opened an academy in New Jersey, The Inferno Training & Performance Center, now run by George Tampa, one of his early students and the first black belt he awarded. Barnett received his black belt from his instructor, UFC veteran Kurt Pellegrino, with the promotion overseen and signed off by Marcelo Garcia. He has competed in both grappling and mixed martial arts but says his greater passion has always been teaching. He has also taught in Costa Rica, Vietnam, Portugal and Peru, and encourages his students to pack a gi whenever they travel.
