Mestre Valdir "Tio Chico" Canuto is the founder and master of the academy that bears his name in São Vicente, on the Baixada Santista coast of São Paulo state. A Jiu-Jitsu black belt, he is described by the school as a pioneer of the art in the Baixada Santista, and over decades of teaching has formed more than 30 black belts as well as champions in national and international competitions. He leads a coaching team that includes his son Yago Canuto and other black belt professors, with adult, kids and no-gi programs for students from beginners to competitors.
